Residents of Aberdeen are to receive £125 gift card for the cost of living

The Aberdeen Gift Card is good for one year after activation, and the council’s co-leaders hope the programme will help both those who are struggling through the winter and the city as a whole.

A £125 gift card will be available to more than 14,000 households in Aberdeen who are impacted by the cost of living crisis.

The card, which can be used at nearly 300 stores in the city, is available to households that receive council tax reductions, according to Aberdeen City Council.

Following a vote by council members in June, the Aberdeen Gift Card programme, which was started by Aberdeen Inspired in 2020 to boost spending during the pandemic, would receive £1.9 million from the council.

The card will be distributed between December 7 and December 16 and is good for one year after it is activated. This week, letters containing activation codes will be delivered.

“I’m pleased that Aberdeen City Council can provide direct financial assistance to households that may be struggling with the ongoing cost of living crisis, funded through £1.9 million received from the Scottish Government’s Local Authority Covid Economic Recovery Fund,” said Councillor Alex McLellan, chair of the finance and resources committee.

Following the Covid-19 epidemic, “local businesses will experience a much-welcome business boost, with the funding coming back into the community and supporting jobs.”

“We were thrilled to bring the Aberdeen Gift Card scheme to the city in 2020,” said Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired. “This latest, much-welcomed intervention by Aberdeen City Council will benefit many households in the city and provide a boost to local businesses at a time where it has never been more necessary.”

There has never been a better opportunity for more of our businesses to sign up for the Aberdeen Gift Card thanks to a roughly $2 million financial injection.
