Man arrested after six-hour standoff with armed police in Arbroath

Following concerns for a person inside a residential building, police in Arbroath were on the streets for nearly six hours

Following reports of a man inside the residence, dozens of emergency responders, including ambulance and fire personnel, flocked to Keptie Street in the town on Sunday afternoon.

A total of twelve police cars, including policemen armed with guns, were sent as part of the reaction.

Negotiators tried to persuade the man to leave the flat for over six hours while the street was sealed off and the neighbours were kept inside.

He added: “Around 12.40pm on Sunday, November 20, police were called to a report of concern for a man within a flat in Keptie Street, Arbroath.

“Officers and negotiators attended. Around 6.30pm, the 28-year-old came out of the flat and he has been arrested in connection with this incident.

“There was no threat to the wider public during this incident. No one was injured.

“A report will be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.”
