Andy Murray beats Nick Kyrgios to reach Stuttgart Open final

The Scot was a 7-6 6-2 winner in the Boss Open semi-final.

Andy Murray has reached the 70th final of his career by beating Nick Kyrgios at the Stuttgart Open.

Murray was 7-6 6-2 winner over the Australian and will now Matteo Berrettini on Sunday for the title.

There was little between Murray and Kyrgios in the first set and it went with serve with a tie break needed to settle it and the Scot coming out on top.

Having gone in front, Murray powered through the second set, opening up a 5-1 lead over his opponent before seeing the match out.

“It has been a long time since the last final [on grass],” he said, reported by atptour.com.

“A lot of ups and downs, but I kept going and kept working and finally managed to get to another one. I am proud of the effort I have put in.

“I was just a little more solid in the tie-break. I asked the questions.

“On these courts, when it is playing quick, the set often comes down to one or two points and I was a little more secure at the end of the first set.”

After the final Murray will travel to play at Queen’s in the final tournament of his Wimbledon preparation.

The Scot will play Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego as he bids to win at Queen’s for the fifth time and give himself a major boost before SW17.
